By Zachary Brooks 1 min read

This month UGenome celebrates Ben Stansfield, UGenome's Director of Computational Biology who will finish his PhD this month in Genetics from the University of Arizona.

Utilizing a combination of wet lab skills and bioinformatics Ben’s PhD research focuses on understanding the genetic underpinnings of Hereditary Leiomyomatosis and Renal Cell Cancer (HLRCC), and specifically the contribution of DNA damage repair impairment to HLRCC tumorigenesis. There are currently no viable treatment options for patients with aggressive HLRCC associated PRCC2.

In addition to his PhD studies, Ben has extensive experience in computational biology, software development, data analysis and working across interdisciplinary teams to push the boundaries of cancer genomics research after a career as a professional rugby player.
